Why Positive Education in schools?

Did you know the most popular course at Harvard University is positive psychology, the science of happiness. How is that one of the most respected universities for our intellectual faculties is valuing what some might call “warm fuzzy” subjects? How is it, that such a feeling like happiness can be taught at university level? And indeed what is being taught?

At Sydney University in the Masters of Applied Positive Psychology you would look at;

  • Positive Organisational Coaching
  • Applied Positive Psychology
  • Theories & Techniques of Coaching Psych
  • Psychology of Peak Performance
  • Philosophy and the Science of Happiness

But what does this have to do with education?

Dr Shekhar Saxena of the Department of Mental Health at the World Health Organisation states that: ''WHO figures clearly show that the burden because of depression is likely to increase so much so that in 2030 this will be the single biggest cause for burden out of all health conditions.''

So often our young people leave school not really know what they are good at, what they want and what direction they are even heading in.

By teaching aspects of positive psychology to our teachers, we can then give our children a better opportunity of being peak performers, personal management and overall happiness.

Perhaps it is these outcomes that are driving people in droves to enrol in such courses. Why wait until university – lets begin it now
